Ceramic Lined Hose Successfully Deployed for Heavy Abrasive Mine Slurry Project

A Chinese marine & industrial hose manufacturer completed delivery of high-performance ceramic lined hoses for an ore tailings slurry transportation project at an open-pit mine. The ceramic hose is designed for conveying coarse, high-density mineral slurry with sharp solid particles, combining the flexibility of rubber hose and extreme wear resistance of alumina ceramic tiles.

The hose inner layer adopts 92% alumina hexagonal ceramic tiles firmly vulcanized and bonded inside the rubber matrix. Multi-layer high-tensile fabric reinforcement provides stable pressure resistance, while the outer rubber cover delivers UV and weather resistance. Unlike standard rubber slurry hoses which wear quickly under high-speed particle scouring, the ceramic lining drastically reduces erosion. It maintains good flexibility to absorb pipeline vibration and allows bending during operation.

Before upgrading, the mine’s conventional rubber hoses suffered severe inner wall abrasion. The average service life was only 2–3 months, requiring frequent shutdown for hose replacement. Continuous maintenance created heavy labor workload and lost production revenue. After technical comparison, the project team selected ceramic lined hoses as the key section of slurry pipeline.

After 8 months of continuous field operation, site inspection shows no tile peeling or obvious lining wear. The service life is more than 4 times longer than traditional rubber hose. Unplanned downtime caused by hose failure is greatly reduced. The mine operator plans to roll out ceramic lined hoses to all high-abrasion pipeline sections in subsequent phases. Industry insiders point out ceramic lined flexible hose becomes an ideal solution for mining tailings, dredging and coal powder conveying, effectively cutting long-term operational expenditure for heavy abrasive material transport.
