Durable Slurry Suction Hose Applied in Large-Scale Sand Extraction Project in Africa
West Africa has rich sand resources, and large-scale sand extraction projects are widespread. In 2024, a local leading sand extraction company contacted Hongruntong Marine, hoping to find a durable slurry suction hose to solve the problem of frequent damage in their sand extraction operations. The customer’s project is located near the coastal area of West Africa, where the sand contains a lot of hard impurities, and the suction pressure is high—their previous slurry suction hoses often had problems such as inner layer wear, pipe collapse, and outer layer aging, which not only increased the cost of replacement but also affected the continuity of sand extraction operations.
After understanding the customer’s needs, we did not directly recommend existing products but combined the local working conditions to carry out targeted R&D and optimization. For the problem of high wear caused by hard sand impurities, we thickened the inner layer of the slurry suction hose to 15mm and used a wear-resistant rubber formula specially developed by our R&D team, which can effectively resist the scouring of hard particles; for the problem of pipe collapse under high suction pressure, we adopted a multi-layer cord and steel wire composite reinforcement structure, which greatly improved the anti-collapse performance of the hose, ensuring stable suction even under high-intensity operation; in view of the strong sunlight and high humidity in West Africa, we added an anti-aging agent to the outer layer rubber, which can slow down the aging speed of the hose and extend its service life.
In order to ensure that the product is fully adapted to the customer’s equipment, we also sent technical personnel to the customer’s site to measure the size of the existing dredging system and customize the flange type and hose length according to the actual installation needs. The first batch of slurry suction hoses was delivered in late 2024, and after trial operation, the customer was very satisfied with the performance. Up to now, the hoses have been operating continuously for 10 months, with a wear rate of less than 10%, and the service life is more than twice that of the previous supplier. The customer was so satisfied that they signed a long-term cooperation agreement with us, and we have since become their exclusive supplier of slurry suction hoses, providing products for their subsequent sand extraction projects in Ghana, Nigeria, and other countries. This cooperation not only expands our market share in West Africa but also demonstrates the strength of Hongruntong Marine’s products in adapting to harsh regional environments.
